Pupils from four of our Academy Schools, Kilburn Junior, Horsley Woodhouse Primary, Howitt Primary and Smalley Richardson Primary made history today when they planted the first of 250,000 trees at Shipley Park as part of the creation of the Young People’s Forest on a former coal mining site.
The boys and girls were led by volunteers from the Woodland Trust in a range of environemntal activities that included the gathering materials to make their own dream-catchers ands acting as newshounds, interviewing guests in front of a 200 strong audience.
The first tree was proudly christened, The Federation Tree and will be a lasting memorial of the children’s day for generstions to come.
