Embark Art Day 2019

70 children from across our Embark schools came together this week for a fabulous Art Day.

They were so excited by the opportunity to work with the brilliant artist Sophie Edwards and the amazing illustrator Lucy Truman.

Sophie shared some of her portraits of famous people before an excellent question and answer session with children where they listened to how she loved art as a child and got better by practising sometimes up to 50 hours a week!

Sophie then led the children through a workshop in which she taught them step by step how to draw her favourite picture of David Beckham! Sophie modelled this on the flipchart with a sharpie pen and it still looked like a masterpiece!

After enjoying each other’s company, a delicious lunch and a play in the beautiful grounds at Richardson Endowed Primary, the children were ready for a fabulous afternoon with Lucy Truman.

Lucy shared her journey from a little girl who loved to draw through to the successful illustrator she is today working with leading authors such as Sophie Kinsella. Again, it was her hard work, determination and dedication which has enabled her to be so successful as well as her flair and the children were captivated listening to how she is inspired and asking some brilliant, searching questions.

Lucy led a workshop on drawing figures and the results were spectacular!

Some lucky children were presented with art kits signed by Sophie and Lucy and all the children received two signed prints to take home.

Following on from the success of the West End Day it was brilliant to see the children enjoy this experience and be inspired by two fabulous ladies.

Embark Federation would like to say a huge thank you to Education Mutual who sponsored the day.
