The children at Heath Primary School have had a great time participating in our annual Arts Week this year. They have taken part in five different workshops; Lantern Making, Poetry, Music, Dance and Puppet Making that have all been ‘Inspired by Literature’. The children have worked in mixed age groups from Reception to Year Six and worked as teams to create amazing performances and pieces of art.
Our Lantern Making workshop focused on the text ‘Big Blue Whale’ by Nicola Davies which made us all think about the issue of plastic waste in our oceans. The children worked together to create a large willow whale lantern for this November’s Bolsover Lantern Parade and used recycled materials to create their own lanterns from old plastic bottles. Our Poetry workshop focused on the poet Michael Rosen and the children created fantastic food poems which they performed to each other. Our Music workshop focused on ‘Mary Poppins’ by P.L Travers and the children loved learning the different songs from the musical. Our Dance workshop focused on ‘Matilda’ by Roald Dahl, and the children had great fun performing the ‘Revolting Children’ dance. Our Puppet Making workshop focused on creating puppets and scenery to tell a variety of fairy tales.
Everyone had a great time and we are all looking forward to Arts Week 2020!
